Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

smash ultimate characters

Introduction

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the newest installed Smash game. Even though it is early in its stages, it is thought that it will be a very competitively viable game. With the wide range of characters, including every single character from previous games as well as new characters included with the game, and new DLC being added periodically, there is a wide variety of playstyles that every player can do. Even though most will choose characters that prove to be the best statistically, some may be able to pull off off-meta picks, such as people playing Ridley, who is thought to be one of the worst picks in Smash Ultimate. New stages, as well as most stages from previous games, leads to a variety of stages that players can choose.

Characters

Due to the large amount of characters in Smash Ultimate, I have separated them by the series they come from.

Of these, the characters available at the start of the game include: Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Samus, Pikachu, Yoshi, and Fox; which are the starting eight of Smash 64. The rest of these characters must be unlocked by gameplay, either through regular Smash or Adventure mode.

Gameplay

Combination of all Smash games altogether, with faster play and less end-lag. This is all combined to create the "ultimate" Smash. It is thought to be the last in the series, however, the creator of Smash said he may do one more, but this is meant to last up to nine years. The online play of Smash Ultimate was made better in this version yet again, allowing players to earn the "tags" of enemy players, for cosmetic purposes. Spirits were also introduced to Smash, allowing for the alteration of nearly every aspect of play in Smash, however, this is mainly used in the new Adventure mode, World of Light. Most spirits can be earned through playing through World of Light, but some may be required to earn through the Spirit Board, which is a list of a certain amount of Spirits that you can fight enemies to earn, the better the spirit, the harder the fight.

Competitions

Competitions for Smash Ultimate are just beginning, and players are improving as we speak. It's not too late to join competitions yourself! Frostbite 2018, Genesis, Don't Park in the Grass, Glitch are all very popular competitions that hold Smash tournaments. Some are completely Smash tournaments, such as Genesis. More large tournaments will be happening soon, like The Big House. Localized Smash tournaments happen all the time at gaming shops. You could even hold your own and advertise it on somewhere like Facebook or Instagram and invite your friends!
